Volvo Perfection Blended with Polestar Sport Engineering
What has been 17 years in the making is now a reality, albeit in a very limited way (120 vehicles for all the USA). Volvo has teamed up with the Swedish sport engineering firm Polestar to create special editions of the S60 and V60 models. The result of this collaboration is a sedan and a crossover that retain all of the efficiency and safety that Volvo brings to the party, plus the design and high performance for which the race-winning Polestar team is known.
Mercedes-Benz has AMG, and now Volvo has Polestar.
Here's a quick look at the basic specifications for these new high performance Volvo platforms:
- Vehicle type: front-engine, 4-wheel-drive, 5-passenger, 4-door sedan or 5-door wagon
- MSRP:S60 sedan $60,225 V60 crossover $61,825

- Top Speed: Actual top speed unknown. Top speed limited electronically to 155 mph
- EPA Rating: (EST) 19 mpg city / 28 mpg highway

The objective of this project is to create a "driver's car" that delivers high performance and reliability, regardless of road or climate conditions. The 4 wheel drive, multilink suspension, 6 cylinder platform was tested over thousands of kilometers in the dusty, hot (hotter than Naples in August) Australian outback, the rain slick (slicker than Fort Myers in September) autobahn in Germany and the frozen (colder than... Chicago?) tracks of northern Sweden to develop a Volvo safe vehicle with the punch and handling that an avid driving enthusiast will appreciate.
Trust us, these two limited edition Volvos truly are a "driver's car."
Going Where No Volvo has Gone Before
Have you ever seen a Volvo with a "Launch Control System?" The S60/V60 Polestar has one (completely covered by warranty unlike the Nissan GT-R).
The roads between Fort Myers, Bonita Springs and Naples have never seen a Volvo like these two limited editions. Volvo does have a long history in racing, but the production cars have always been best known for "crash it and walk away" not high speed performance.
The S60 and V60 are the first full-car collaboration between Volvo and the production performance division of Polestar. The S60/V60 Polestars are built entirely on Volvo's Swedish assembly line to maintain Volvo quality production standards while installing the stiffer bushings, braces, and mounts that help sharpen the vehicles' reflexes. Despite the major boost in horsepower and all the performance tweaking in the aerodynamic design, suspension and braking systems the S60/V60 retains the same fuel-economy rating, emissions, and crash-test ratings of the standard Volvo models that they are based on.
As we mentioned the 2015 version gives the name "Limited Edition" new meaning. A third of the production line was pre-sold before Volvo had even ordered a ship to transport them to the States. Ferrari sent 120 of their $1.7 million LaFerrairis to North America this year;the same number of Polestar models sent to the United States. It's doubtful you'll see either in the Barefoot Beach parking lot this year. However, for those customers who are motivated by the exclusivity that comes with an exotic (and reasonably priced for its class) vehicle, contact us at Volvo of Bonita Springs and we will explain the process on how to acquire one of these beauties.
