Clad in blue ice paint like it had gone to a training camp in the Swedish tundra, visitors at the Chicago Auto Show saw what auto tuner Polestar could do when they had the time to improve the power and handling of the 2014 Volvo S60. According to journalists on the scene, the results were stunning.

It seemed engineers at Polestar were given the mission to take the existing model that buyers considering the 2014 Volvo S60 in Bonita Springs already give high marks and build it back up into a corner-carving monster, with more power, lighter weight and an improved suspension system.

They bumped up the horsepower to 345, but what was notable is the power band. In many vehicles, especially those with turbocharged engines, the grunt does not come until the engine is revved close to the red line. The Polestar team utilized a twin-scroll turbocharger which acts more quickly to drive air into the engine, meaning consistent power nearly as soon as a driver hits the gas pedal.

The suspension is also an upgrade from the existing 2014 Volvo S60 with performance shocks and struts married to a high performance all-wheel drive system. Aggressive looks match the handling and power improvements with an aggressive front lip spoiler and a more squat stance.

While it looks like the Polestar cars will compete against tuned cars from Mercedes-Benz' AMG shop, the Audi S-Series and the BMW M-variants, it does not take much away from the sedans available to buyers looking at the 2014 Volvo S60 in Naples FL, according to many car reviewers.

In comparison tests, the midsize sedan shines against well-known competitors from Audi and Mercedes-Benz because of Volvo's known emphasis on safety but also some Swedish quirks. The designers from that country built out an interior that stands out from the Germans, as does the classic grille design. And of course there are some standout safety features like City Safe that automatically stop the sedan to avoid low-speed crashes as well as full-length side curtain airbags and head restraints that can reduce whiplash.

The 2015 Polestar S60 won't be available for months, and more importantly, just over 100 will actually be sold to customers, according to most reports. It is definitely a monument to what performance tuning can do for the Swedish sedans. At the same time, the base is one that car journalists love and its why Volvo of Bonita Springs is proud to offer test drives of the 2014 Volvo S60. It is competitive within its segment without the unnecessary luxury premium of other makers. Even still the buying experience is designed you the right sedan or wagon for your needs without any of the hassle many have come to expect at dealerships.
